The Cyber Police Unit of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC-CDMX) detected the scam in networks. The modus operandi begins when the scammers detect people who want a relationship, either with a \u201csugar daddy\u201d or \u201csugar mommy\u201d.<\/p>\n
Taking advantage of victims\u201c vulnerability, fraudsters \u201duse false identities, manipulated photos and fictitious profiles\".\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the connection is established, the crooks may ask for money in advance under false pretenses or deceive about their financial capacity,\u201d the SSC said.<\/p>\n
The Cybernetic Police of the CDMX, through the SSC, indicated that to avoid falling into this type of scams it is recommended:<\/p>\n
- Before committing to someone in this type of relationship, thoroughly research their identity and background.<\/p>\n
- Do not share details such as bank account numbers or credit card information.<\/p>\n
- Being wary of overly generous promises<\/p>\n
- Remain vigilant for any warning signs, such as requests for advance money, discrepancies in information provided or unusual behavior during communication<\/p>\n
- Avoid committing yourself to a financial relationship without a clear understanding of who the person is<\/p>\n
- Avoid meetings in private or unfamiliar places during the first few dates.<\/p>\n
The SSC-CDMX indicated that \u201csugars\u201d are financially established individuals who provide financial support to younger couples.
