Pemex has begun exporting the first barrels of Zapoteco crude, a new oil blend it introduced to the market just a few months ago, according to data from the state-owned oil company.
Last October, the national oil company exported 32 thousand barrels of this new blend, marking its first incursion into the international market. However, this volume still represents a minimal percentage of its exports, only 3% of the total.
The first shipments of barrels were destined for the U.S. market, according to internal company information, and left from the port of Salina Cruz, in Oaxaca.
Pemex's strategy in introducing Zapotec crude oil includes strengthening its presence in the light oil market, whose demand and price have increased significantly in recent years. In addition, it seeks to increase its revenues from exports of heavy oil, which it produces in greater quantities and has a lower price in the market.
