The Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena) reported that last year it seized 138 tons of hydrocarbons smuggled in the Sonda de Campeche, during the past year.
During President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's morning press conference in Tabasco, the head of Sedena, Luis Crescencio Sandoval, said that the authorities also arrested nine people, in addition to securing four vessels and two vehicles that were used for piracy.
To combat the crime, he added that the authorities deployed surface units in trinomial, as well as permanent surveillance with interceptor patrols in the most problematic areas, inspections of small boats, and river and coastal operations.
