Petróleos Mexicanos stated that on December 15, 2023, the company's management delivered to the Sustainability Committee the first version of its Sustainability Plan, with the objective of strengthening its strategy to address environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues.
In a statement, the company said that this document contains strategies for reducing emissions, energy transition, mitigating the impact of operations on the environment and promoting the safety of operations. It also provides for actions in terms of governance, operational, financial and communication policies and procedures to support its implementation.
In recent months, Pemex has been singled out for extraordinary methane leaks into the environment, in addition to constant accidents at its upstream and midstream facilities.
“Currently, the members of the Sustainability Committee are in the process of reviewing the plan, hoping to integrate in the coming weeks, together with Pemex management and with the assistance of the consulting firm that supported the preparation of this document, a version that incorporates the suggestions that may arise, to be presented at a future session to the Board of Directors of Petróleos Mexicanos for its approval,” the statement said.
