Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has launched an ambitious exploration project in Chiapas, with the goal of drilling 16 wells in the Sitio Grande field. The project starts with the Sitio Grande 2001SON well, located in Reforma, Chiapas, at a depth of 8,300 meters, where it is expected to discover a reservoir with a potential of 148 million barrels of crude oil equivalent.
This effort seeks to add a new field to the historically productive Southeast Basins, with the potential to add significant oil reserves to Pemex's operations, comparable to the previous successes of the Ixachi and Quesqui fields.
