Did you know? In 2020, important reforms to the Social Security Law and the Retirement Savings System were implemented to correct the effects of the anti-labor reforms of the Ernesto Zedillo and Felipe Calderon administrations. These changes include:
-Increase in employer and government contributions: Contributions increased from 5.15% and 0.225% to 13.875% combined.
- Reduction of weeks of contributions: The requirement of weeks of contributions was reduced from 1250 to 750, with a gradual plan to increase to 1000 in 2031.
- Decrease in AFORE commissions: Commissions charged by the AFOREs decreased from 1.89% to 0.92%.
