The Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur) cancelled last night the international bidding process for the construction of the 49.8 km section 5 north of the Tren Maya, in which 10 consortiums (grouping more than 25 construction companies) were participating, to leave it in the hands of military engineers.
The amount of the economic proposals averaged 14,500 million pesos and the award was to be made this Friday.
The announcement on CompraNet formalized the decision made last week by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which forced the fund to change its plans once again.
As an argument to cancel the participation of private companies, Fonatur pointed out the use of the technical and operational experience of the engineering service of the Ministry of National Defense in the execution of public works.
