Priego Brito & Guzmán Juárez Attorneys at Law

Today, March 02, 2021, the newspaper El Financiero published that:

At fast track, Last night, the united commissions of Energy; Environment; and Legislative Studies, Second, in the Senate, approved without changes the reform to the Electricity Industry Law, which is expected to pass to the plenary this Tuesday.

The majority of Morena and its ally PT also voted against an open parliament, as proposed by the PAN, PRI, PRD, MC and Green senators, who also warned that this reform is unconstitutional.

“Against continuing to waste time,” said Eva Galaz, a member of the Morenista party, when she voted against the open parliament.

During the discussion, Moreno member Napoleón Gómez Urrutia interrupted PAN member Xóchitl Gálvez, who asked for respect and assured that the mining leader comes from “an authoritarian culture”. “You are from a reactionary and corrupt culture,” Gómez Urrutia retorted.

Gálvez asserted that the president of the Political Coordination Board, Ricardo Monreal, broke his word to carry out the open parliament: “He made a fool of us and mocked us. It is not worth it”.

For this reason, he called on legislators “who are not forbidden to think” to hold an open parliament on Tuesday and Wednesday, without the Senate's endorsement, to listen to society.

PRI member Beatriz Paredes warned of the risks of both constitutional violations found in the law, as well as international treaty agreements: “This will surely be dealt with in the courts”.

Emecista Verónica Delgadillo warned that Morena may win, but when we breathe dirty air and there are more deaths from pollution, the people will place them “in the dustbin of history”.
