This Monday, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) under the presidency of Graciela Marquez Colin reported on the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI) by Sector of Activities for the month of July. According to the report, industrial activities related to the generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of electric energy, as well as the supply of water and natural gas through pipelines to the final consumer had an increase of 3.5 percent last July with respect to the previous month and of 4.6 percent compared to the same month of 2022. He added that, at annual rate and with seasonally adjusted series, the IMAI increased 4.9 percent, in real terms, last July. By sector of economic activity, Construction advanced 24.7 points; Generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of electric power, water supply and natural gas through pipelines to the final consumer, 4.6 percent; and Manufacturing industries, 1.1 percent.

In view of this scenario, and although statistics reflect friendly numbers, by 2050 it is expected that the country's electric distribution networks will have to grow by at least 50%, to support the progressive increase in the different social and business needs of the electric sector, which percentage is estimated to be in the same proportion. According to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), at present, the medium voltage general distribution networks (RGD) have a length of 548,410 kilometers (km) with an installed capacity of 59,125 megavolt-amperes (MVA), with data as of the end of 2022. Low voltage networks were 340,759 km.
The national installed capacity in distributed generation of less than 0.5 megawatts (MW), including all technologies, reached 2,954.65 MW in the same year.
