Little is known about the benefits of the continued use and implementation of GREEN HYDROGEN in the world, as this important element is part of the goal of achieving global decarbonization; and hydrogen is currently responsible for more than 2% of total CO2 emissions.

But what is this little known technology based on? This technology consists in the generation of hydrogen through a chemical process called electrosis. This consists in the decomposition of water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen. In this sense, no carbon dioxide is used or emitted to produce green hydrogen. In addition to its environmental friendliness, it has also proven its usefulness for activities in the chemical and food industries, as well as for the manufacture of materials such as steel.

So, last Friday the Mexican Hydrogen Association held its second Mexican Hydrogen Congress, and one of the proposals that were addressed is the implementation of fiscal and economic incentives to promote and motivate the use of this energy source. The president of the Association said that a national strategy is required for this purpose. “We believe that by working together the authorities and the industry we can create that route”, he also added that in Mexico there is progress in the subject, since there are projects with that turn in Durango, besides that in Oaxaca and Campeche there are investments for 2,500 million euros. Virginia Leal, Coordinator of the Management Initiatives Project of the United Nations Development Program, added that Mexico requires a roadmap that provides coherence between the different instruments focused on the reduction of greenhouse gases, and to have a mapping of companies with their potential in the production of green hydrogen and generate governance mechanisms that are coherent between the different levels of government, private and social sector.

In addition to this, Mexico's figures in this sector are estimated to be below what they should be, and the subject, until recently, was not considered of sufficient relevance, but now, after the different needs we face as a society, the government and social entities are inclined to opt for different alternatives to collaborate in the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG), taking into account an issue such as energy transition, which is expected to have a global significance in the way in which energy is supplied and consumed. One of the key aspects of this transition is the replacement of fossil fuels with more environmentally friendly resources.
