Pemex reported that 50% of these contracts were awarded through open bids.
In 2022, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) signed contracts worth 25,774 million pesos with micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), mainly with companies in the states of Tabasco, Veracruz and Campeche.
The Economy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies reported, based on data provided by the oil company, that these acquisitions have contributed significantly to regional economic development in these three states, reaching a total of 8 thousand 624 million pesos in contracts.
Tabasco, in particular, has experienced an impressive 7% growth in the first quarter of the year and is among the fastest growing states in the country.
In addition, it was highlighted that more than 50% of the contracts awarded by the state-owned company to small companies last year were carried out through open bidding processes, representing a total of 13 thousand 998 million pesos.
Pemex has also implemented the Business Competitiveness Self-Assessment Program since 2022, allowing MSMEs to identify and address their weaknesses.
In addition, the company has implemented logistics and supply strategies that make it easier for these companies to become suppliers.
The objective of these policies is to achieve a 30% reduction in the costs of new contracts by the end of the six-year term, as well as to encourage greater participation of regional suppliers in the national oil company's supply chain.
As part of this strategy, Pemex Exploración y Producción has met its national content obligations, and during the first half of 2023, 406 of the 437 assignments met this goal.
