Manuel Rodríguez, who heads the Energy Commission, commented that it is up to the Energy Regulatory Commission to determine whether or not the elimination of the asymmetric regulation imposed on Pemex in first-hand sales of hydrocarbons for Petróleos Mexicanos is appropriate, which is why this Wednesday a point of agreement was presented urging the CRE to take up this consideration.
This elimination stems from the need that private companies have expressed for an equitable market for all agents, including Pemex. He went on to state that there is now a need to strengthen the sector from a national sovereignty perspective, through equal access to energy, financial stability, the frontal fight against corruption and the implementation of best practices. He added that this means guaranteeing energy security and sovereignty, which consist of the Mexican State's capacity to provide and ensure, through nationally-owned companies, that all people can meet their energy needs in dignity and in sufficient and equitable quantities.
