The difficult situation that small businessmen are going through due to the lack of payment by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) to its suppliers and contractors has forced them to seek schemes to guarantee payment for work already done. The leader of the Association of Hotels and Motels of Carmen, Olimpia Álvarez Casanova, has expressed the need to place “padlocks” in the contracts between the state productive company and its suppliers to prevent the oil companies from leaving the municipality of Carmen without paying their debts, thus affecting local businesses.
Carmen, whose economy is closely linked to the oil sector, suffers the consequences of Pemex's failure to pay, as it has a cascading effect that impacts all productive sectors on the island.
The leader emphasized that it is essential to take this proposal to the Congress of the Union for discussion and approval. The proposed legislation seeks to ensure that contracts between Pemex and its suppliers include specific provisions for the fulfillment of payments, thus protecting the interests of local businessmen and avoiding negative impacts on Carmen's economy.
