The pipeline would export about 79,287 cubic meters per day of natural gas from the U.S. to the Saguaro export plant. U.S. energy regulators approved Thursday a pipeline that would export about 79,287 cubic meters per day of natural gas from the United States to Mexico Pacific LNG's Saguaro export plant on the country's west coast.

The approval is another step in the company's plan to build an approximately $15 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Mexico that would export supercooled fuel processed from U.S. natural gas.

Mexico Pacific LNG has not yet given the financial green light for the construction of the 15 million metric ton per year plant.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) decision on the construction of the Saguaro Connector pipeline comes weeks after the Biden administration paused the Department of Energy's reviews of export permits.

The administration wants DOE to consider the impact of plants on the climate, consumers and the community in its deliberations.

The cross-border pipeline has caused opposition from Texas groups, including the environmental group Sierra Club, who have argued that FERC should take into account greenhouse gas emissions, including potential methane leakage.
