Pemex is committed to significantly reduce emissions by 2027, facing challenges in production and refining processes.
Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has announced its commitment to intensify measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2027. This effort responds to the need to align its operations with the Mexican government's environmental goals, which aim for a 14% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the oil and energy sector by 2030.
In a recent presentation with investors, the state-owned company outlined its ambitious environmental goals, which include reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions associated with oil and gas production by 48% by 2027.
The state-owned oil company also aims to reduce emissions in its refining processes by 36% and in natural gas processing by 58% by the same year. Pemex's plan to improve its environmental performance comes at a crucial time for the company, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years due to its financial problems, which have been exacerbated by its poor sustainability policy.
