The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) announced adjustments in the fiscal stimulus to the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) for fuels from February 10 to 16, 2024, as published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). This move is part of a strategy to increase the federal government's revenue by affecting the final price of gasoline at service stations. Specifically, regular gasoline (Magna) will enjoy a stimulus of 2.87%, which translates into a reduction of the IEPS to 5.9979 pesos per liter. In contrast, Premium gasoline will not receive a stimulus for the fifteenth consecutive week, maintaining its STPS at 5.5751 pesos per liter. On the other hand, diesel will benefit from a 13.79% stimulus, equivalent to 0.9360 pesos per liter, adjusting the IEPS to 5.8505 pesos per liter. These measures reflect the government's effort to moderate consumer prices and balance the need for revenue collection with the impact on the consumer economy, in a context where the national average price of regular gasoline is 22.75 pesos per liter, 24.33 pesos for Premium, and 24.67 pesos for diesel.
