The Labor Reform has marked a crucial milestone by establishing proportional gender representation as a mandatory requirement in the integration of union leadership. This measure seeks to promote the active participation of women in decision-making within unions, spaces traditionally dominated by men in our country.
Although this measure is a step forward in ensuring equal opportunities, we still face challenges. Women continue to face difficulties in gaining access to union leadership positions, such as general secretaries.
At the close of January 31, 2024, 2,689 procedures for the modification of union leadership have been registered, complying with the gender representative integration. In addition, 368 women hold the position of general secretary and another 9,620 are part of a union portfolio.
