Dante San Pedro Yamil was appointed as the new President of the Mexican Academy of Energy Law, replacing Israel Hurtado.

On February 22, the new members of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Academy of Energy Law (AMDE) were sworn in with Dante San Pedro Yamil as President and Erik Manuel Priego Brito as Executive Secretary for the 2024-2026 term.

Among the main objectives within the Academy, President San Pedro and his team intend to promote research in the various areas of energy, collaborate in energy policy, but as the main axis they aim to achieve gender equity; the inclusion of women mainly, which will be done gradually through committees, events, publications and forums.The above must be with women leading the project, but men always supporting equally, it is a joint work, for this I appoint and entrust such mission to one of the leading women in the industry, a member of the Council years ago, the renowned: Aida Ivett Ceja Aguilar. Before the guests of honor and the audience, as witnesses of this great challenge, the new Board pledged to promote gender diversity and the inclusion of women, which is why they announced that, during the month of April, the first Women in Energy event will be held with the Forum, Inclusion in the Energy Sector, chaired by the industry's leading women.

San Pedro Yamil, who was the Executive Secretary, a position that Priego Brito took over from Israel Hurtado Acosta, who held the position for the 2022-2024 term; Carlos de María y Campos Segura was reelected for a second term as Vice President, while Carlos F. Rodríguez Sámano was also elected as Vice President. Aida Ceja Aguilar and Hurtado Acosta are also members of the Board.

AMDE has an established team with proven experience, such as Thomas Mueller Gastell, Nicolás Borda Barrero, Ariel Ramos Marcín, Cynthia Bouchot Preciat and Humberto Celis Aguilar, among others.

He also emphasized the promotion of research in all areas of energy and support for development plans and current programs for exploration, extraction, transportation of hydrocarbons, the electricity market and natural gas supply.

Another objective will be the publication of the book “Energy policy during the Fourth Transformation and its fight against corruption”coordinated by Dr. Erik Manuel Priego Brito, with the participation of several experts, which will be published by the Chamber of Deputies, MA Porrúa and AMDE.

The new team also reaffirmed its commitment to open the call for new members and to generate events on an ongoing basis.

Dante San Pedro holds a law degree from Universidad de las Américas and a Master's degree in International Business Law from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He has extensive experience in the energy industry, both in the public and private sectors. He began his career in PEMEX, later joined Sener and was one of the founders of the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH). In the private sector he has worked as an energy consultant, and for the last 15 years he has been a member of the Board of Directors of AMDE. He has been a professor for several years and has participated in various forums. He is a member of different groups, such as Coparmex and the Business Coordinating Council.

San Pedro is originally from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, so he is familiar with refining, as well as logistics, transportation and gas. His mission as new President is to strengthen the Academy in a pluralistic and gender-equitable manner. His vision is of a productive, environmentally friendly, efficient and dynamic energy sector.

Priego Brito has a PhD in Law and a Master's Degree in Energy Law from UDLAP. He also has a Master in Anti-Corruption Policies from the University of Salamanca, where he studied his first Doctorate; he has a specialty in Hydrocarbons Regulation from UDLAP, he studied the Law Firm Management Program at Yale University, as well as the Energy Program at ITAM, Energy Diplomas from the Libre de Derecho, UNAM, among others; an internship on Capitol Hill, in the U.S. Congress, and at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C.

He has more than two decades participating in important projects; exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons, such as oil rounds, migrations and assignments; with service providers, Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts; with permit holders in natural gas transportation and refining, as well as in surface occupation contracts and rights of way.

Aida Ivett Ceja Aguilar, has a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana, with Honorable Mention and a Master's Degree in Law from the Universidad Panamericana; with experience in public initiative, in the Energy Regulatory Commission and in several private companies, especially in the Gas Sector, she has extensive knowledge in regulation and norms.

At the swearing-in ceremony, the Academy was attended by senior officials of the Federal Public Administration of the energy sector, as well as representatives of large companies operating in the country. He was Vice President of Coparmex Ciudad del Carmen, was selected as one of the 100 leaders of the Energy Sector 2023 and actively participates in academic training, giving lectures, organizing events, most recently the Diploma in Energy 2030, he continuously publishes in magazines and books. His mission is to promote the Association to fulfill the President's vision of making it competitive, innovative, cutting-edge, efficient and inclusive, collaborating with the members of the Board, and inviting new participants to strengthen it and thus achieve its objectives.

Witnessing the inauguration were: Heberto Barrios Castillo, Undersecretary of Energy of Sener; Humberto Hernández Haddad, Undersecretary of Tourism of SECTUR; Ángel Carrizales López, Executive Director of ASEA; Guillermo Narváez Elizondo, General Director of Distribution of CFE; César Fuente Estrada, Corporate Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Projects of CFE; Marco Antonio Osorio Bonilla, General Director of IMP; Lorenzo Meyer Serra, Counselor of PEMEX, and Laura Chong of ASEA.
