The UK Embassy in Mexico has highlighted the urgency of adopting a National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy and founding the Agency for Digital Development, Innovation and Emerging Technologies (ADDyTE), according to a recent study by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Technology Standards and Collaboration Fund (FCDO). This initiative seeks to position Mexico at the forefront of the digital revolution, taking advantage of the accelerated advancement of AI in key sectors such as telecommunications, healthcare, education, and more. The report highlights the importance of a well-articulated strategy that integrates ethical principles, cross-sector collaboration and international standards, thus promoting sustainable and equitable technology-driven development.
The creation of ADDyTE is proposed as an essential step towards the consolidation of a digital ecosystem that facilitates continuous innovation and the use of emerging technologies, placing it in the Office of the Presidency of the Republic to ensure its leadership and coordination capacity at national and international level. In addition, it is suggested to strengthen the capacities of regulatory bodies and promote cooperation between the government, the private sector, academia and civil society, facing the ethical and legal challenges that AI entails. With this vision, Mexico is preparing for a future where technology and innovation are fundamental pillars of its development.
